CD Projekt Red Cuts Staff on Witcher Multiplayer Project Sirius
CD Projekt has confirmed layoffs affecting the development of The Witcher multiplayer spinoff, codenamed Project Sirius. The company issued a statement regarding the workforce reduction.
The reduction affects nine employees directly, with four positions cut in Boston and five in Warsaw. An additional nine staff members have been offered the chance to apply for openings elsewhere within the company. This brings the project's workforce down from 83 to approximately 60 individuals.
Sirius has faced a turbulent development cycle since The Molasses Flood joined in 2021, including a full creative restart in 2023. Despite nearly four years passing, no gameplay has been revealed. Meanwhile, CD Projekt is heavily invested in Witcher 4, Cyberpunk 2, and a planned rapid-fire release of three mainline Witcher titles.
The immediate impact falls on the affected workers and their families, who face job insecurity despite some internal transfer options. For the gaming community, this restructuring could signal further delays or a reduced scope for the long-awaited multiplayer title. It may also reflect broader industry pressures on ambitious live-service projects, potentially influencing how studios allocate resources and manage expectations for similar ventures.
