New York Giants Bolster Cornerback Depth with Ugo Amadi and Sam Webb
The New York Giants have signed veteran cornerbacks Ugo Amadi and Sam Webb while releasing David Long and D.J. James just a week after adding them. The moves come as the team deals with injuries in its secondary ahead of the preseason opener. The Giants are reshuffling their defensive backfield to improve depth and competition.
Amadi's recent seasons have seen a sharp decline in defensive snaps, dropping from over 500 in 2024 to just one in 2025, while his special teams workload increased to 96 snaps. The 29-year-old brings 85 games of regular-season experience to the secondary.
Webb, a 28-year-old perimeter corner, logged 137 defensive snaps for Cleveland last year. With Dru Phillips, Paulson Adebo, and Greg Newsome nursing knee or undisclosed issues, the Giants also hosted former first-round pick Terrion Arnold for a visit on Wednesday.
These roster maneuvers could impact the competitive balance of the preseason opener, as the Giants may rely on newly signed veterans to fill gaps. For the players involved, such moves could provide career lifelines or signal the end of a tenure. Fans may see a more experienced, albeit less familiar, secondary, potentially affecting team chemistry and early-season performance.
