Burnley terminate shirt sponsorship deal just before Championship opener
Burnley have ended their shirt sponsorship agreement only 42 days after signing it. The decision comes two days before their first Championship match of the season against West Ham. The club has not yet announced a replacement sponsor.
The abrupt termination follows a brief 42-day partnership with Finotive One, forcing the club to pull current merchandise from sale and offer refunds. A promotional video featuring celebrity investors and athletes has been rendered obsolete, while the team's kit will now feature Vertu Motors for the upcoming match.
This is not Burnley's first sponsorship upheaval. Under AIK Capital's ownership, the club has cycled through several betting-related sponsors, including LoveBet, which collapsed financially, and 96.com, which faced regulatory warnings over anti-money laundering failures. The club's chairman had previously signaled a review of such partnerships.
The sudden withdrawal of a major sponsor could destabilize Burnley's short-term revenue projections, potentially affecting squad investment or matchday operations. Fans may face logistical inconvenience with kit exchanges, though the club's swift response could mitigate frustration. More broadly, this incident may signal volatility in the sports sponsorship market, where companies can exit quickly, prompting clubs to seek more stable, perhaps non-gambling, partners to protect their brand and supporter trust.
