Rotavirus Vaccine Shows Strong Protection Against Related Gastroenteritis Deaths

An international retrospective study found that at least one dose of rotavirus vaccine was 75.8% effective at preventing death from rotavirus-positive acute gastroenteritis in children aged 3 months to 4 years. However, effectiveness against all-cause acute gastroenteritis mortality was only 20.8%. Unvaccinated children were nearly 14 times more likely to die from acute gastroenteritis.
