HHS seeks public comment on overhauling vaccine recommendation categories

The Department of Health and Human Services filed a request for information Friday asking whether current federal vaccine categories—routine, risk-based, and shared clinical decision-making—are adequate. Critics see the move as part of the administration's effort to weaken vaccine policies, following President Trump's executive order that cut routine childhood immunizations from 18 to 11. Health care attorney Richard Hughes IV criticized the RFI for omitting any mention of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, which has guided vaccine recommendations since 1964.
