Somalia's child malnutrition cases surge 32% as funding cuts force clinic closures

Severe acute malnutrition among Somali children has increased by 32% in the first half of 2026, according to UNICEF. More than 200 health and nutrition facilities have closed due to international aid cuts, with hundreds more at risk. The drought has displaced about 500,000 people since January, and nearly 1.9 million children are expected to be malnourished this year.
