Deadly monsoon floods in Assam leave trail of destruction, over 100 dead

Heavy rains in July triggered flash floods and landslides in Assam, killing more than 100 people and destroying 2,700 villages. The disaster displaced 700,000 residents and affected 1.2 million across the state. Many victims were caught off guard as water surged from rivers swollen by rainfall in neighbouring Nagaland.
