Europe's summer heat waves linked to more than 30,000 excess deaths

Provisional data from EuroMomo and national health agencies indicate over 30,000 excess deaths across Europe during the summer's heat waves and drought. The deadliest period was the last week of June, with nearly 16,000 excess deaths. Germany recorded its highest heat-related death toll since records began in 2016, with people over 75 most affected.
