Two officers wounded, suspect dead after Hartford-area pursuit ends in gunfire

Two Connecticut police officers were shot and a suspect was killed after an attempted arrest led to a car chase and exchange of gunfire. The officers, Alex Diaz and Jon Escobar, were treated and released from a hospital. A gun was recovered at the scene, and authorities have not yet identified the suspect.

The incident began shortly after 11 p.m. when Hartford officers responded to suspected illegal activity and a male suspect bolted on foot. During the ensuing struggle, an officer detected what appeared to be a firearm in the suspect's waistband before the man broke free and entered a vehicle. The pursuit crossed into neighboring communities as dispatchers alerted surrounding departments.

The chase concluded in Newington's Webster Court, near the Rocky Hill boundary, where the suspect exited his car and gunfire erupted. Both wounded officers—Diaz and Escobar—received hospital treatment and were released, with Diaz recovering at home. A weapon was recovered at the scene, and the Connecticut Office of Inspector General has assumed oversight of the deadly force investigation, which remains active.
