NYC grocers challenge municipal store plan in court

A coalition of New York City grocers filed two lawsuits against Mayor Zohran Mamdani's administration over its proposal to open city-run grocery stores. The plaintiffs, many of whom are immigrant- and minority-owned businesses, allege civil rights violations and a lack of proper impact analysis, claiming the stores would undercut their prices. The city plans five taxpayer-funded stores that would sell food at 30 percent below market rates.
