Beijing Robot Conference Displays Humanoid and Animal-Like Machines
The 2026 World Robot Conference in Beijing showcased over 3,000 robotics products, including humanoid robots, robot dogs, and robotic hands. Demonstrations included robot MMA fights, synchronized dances, and table tennis. The event highlighted China's growing robotics industry.
The conference, held August 19–23, featured more than 3,000 robotics products spanning humanoid machines, embodied intelligence systems, and specialized components. Demonstrations ranged from competitive displays like robot MMA bouts and soccer matches to more whimsical offerings including synchronized dance routines, bartending, shadow play, and table tennis with a robotic hand.
Chinese firms dominated the showcase, with Unitree presenting multiple humanoid models performing flips and coordinated dances, while ENGINEAI and Booster Robotics demonstrated combat and athletic capabilities. The event drew large crowds, including children, and highlighted how far China's robotics sector has advanced in both entertainment-oriented and practical applications.
This showcase could signal accelerating integration of robotics into everyday life, potentially reshaping labor markets and consumer experiences. As humanoid machines become more capable and affordable, they may eventually assist in elder care, manufacturing, and household tasks. However, widespread adoption could also raise questions about job displacement and human-robot interaction norms. The conference's emphasis on entertainment applications suggests a gradual path toward public acceptance, which may ease societal transition while still prompting important discussions about automation's broader consequences.
