Europe's summer heatwaves cause at least 35,000 excess deaths, incomplete data shows

Preliminary data from about half of Europe indicates that over 35,000 excess deaths occurred during four consecutive heatwaves this summer. The combined death toll in Germany, France, and Spain already surpasses 25,000. Officials expect the final count to increase significantly after August figures are included.
