Seagate 5TB Portable Drive for Xbox Gets Rare $50 Discount at Best Buy
Best Buy is selling the Seagate Game Drive for Xbox 5TB portable hard drive for $169.99, a $50 discount, for today only. The drive offers USB 3.2 speeds and includes a one-year warranty, though it uses a less common USB Micro-B connection. This is currently the lowest price for a portable 5TB drive on the market.
The drive's Xbox branding is largely cosmetic, functioning as a standard portable storage unit with a green LED accent bar. Real-world transfer rates reach 100-150MB/s over USB 3.2, though the Micro-B connector is an aging standard that may require a replacement cable if the included one is lost.
This deal reflects broader storage market trends. The same drive sold for roughly $100 two years ago, but current pricing has climbed significantly. At $169.99, this represents the lowest available price for any portable 5TB drive today, making it notable for gamers and general users needing bulk storage without paying premium SSD prices.
This deal could benefit budget-conscious gamers and content creators who need large-capacity storage without premium costs. The price drop may signal shifting inventory strategies or market corrections in storage pricing. However, the aging USB Micro-B interface and mechanical drive technology mean buyers should weigh speed and convenience against savings. The one-day window could create urgency that drives impulse purchases among consumers monitoring tech deals.
