Australian Music Manager Ralph Carr Gets Six-Year Prison Term for Sexual Assault

Australian talent manager Ralph Carr has been sentenced to six years in prison after a jury found him guilty of two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The Melbourne promoter, who worked with artists such as Kate Ceberano and Tina Arena, will serve at least four years behind bars. The judge condemned his actions as an appalling breach of trust, noting that Carr has shown no remorse.

The sentencing concludes a case that had been shrouded in secrecy for nearly three years, with a suppression order preventing media identification of Carr until his conviction. The attack occurred at his Melbourne residence in March 2023, following an evening involving drugs and alcohol, and the jury rejected his not-guilty plea on all counts. Judge Gucciardo specifically cited the violation of trust as an aggravating factor, while also acknowledging Carr's lack of prior criminal record and mental health considerations in determining the sentence.

Carr's career spanned decades in both the music and AFL sporting worlds, managing prominent Australian artists including ARIA Hall of Famers Kate Ceberano and Tina Arena, to whom he was married in the 1990s. His business ventures also included RCM Touring, which entered liquidation in 2018 owing A$120,000 to another touring company. The case has drawn significant attention given his high-profile status across Australian entertainment and sport.
