El Nino at record strength triggers emergency declarations in Central America

Panama has declared an emergency over El Nino, following similar moves by Honduras and El Salvador, as the weather pattern disrupts shipping and agriculture. The phenomenon, which warms Pacific waters, is expected to contribute to record global temperatures and more extreme weather in 2027. The Panama Canal has already reduced ship traffic due to low water levels.
