IKEA and Xbox Launch Gaming Furniture Line with Thumbstick Stools and D-Pad Cushions
IKEA and Xbox have unveiled a nine-piece furniture collection named YXSTABY, featuring items like thumbstick stools, D-pad cushions, and TV stands. The range, designed using Xbox controller 3D files, will be available in the UK from October. It aims to integrate gaming furniture into mainstream living spaces.
The nine-piece YXSTABY range includes a £35 thumbstick stool modeled directly from the controller’s original 3D files, with a tilt that mimics the stick’s motion. Other items, such as the £12 D-pad cushion and platter, echo the Elite pad’s concave design. The collection also features practical pieces like a £99 castor TV stand and a £115 side table, all shown at Gamescom before the October UK launch.
IKEA’s press materials position the line as moving gaming furniture beyond dedicated hobby spaces into shared living areas. The collaboration pairs Xbox’s design team, led by Carl Ledbetter, with IKEA’s home-furnishing expertise. Pricing spans from £12 accessories to £115 tables, with lounge chairs and monitor stands rounding out the lineup.
This collaboration could normalize gaming as a mainstream domestic activity, blurring the line between leisure tech and home decor. By offering affordable, stylish pieces, it may encourage adults and families to integrate gaming setups into shared rooms, potentially reducing the stigma of gaming as a solitary or niche hobby. However, the novelty items—like thumbstick stools—may appeal more to enthusiasts than practical users, limiting broader societal impact beyond aesthetic trends.
