Wrexham close to securing Kabore on permanent deal
Wrexham are on the verge of signing Issa Kabore permanently from Manchester City after his successful loan season. The Burkina Faso defender made 32 appearances and led the team with eight assists in the Championship. Kabore, who never played a senior match for City, has been loaned out seven times since joining in 2020.
Kabore joined Manchester City from Mechelen in 2020 but never appeared for the senior side, instead spending time on loan with seven different clubs across Europe, including Troyes, Marseille, Luton Town, Benfica, and Werder Bremen. His move to Wrexham came on transfer deadline day last September.
The defender made an immediate impression with two assists on his debut against Norwich City. A hamstring injury interrupted his season, but he returned for the Africa Cup of Nations and finished the campaign strongly. Wrexham, who finished seventh in the Championship, have already signed Danny Imray, Anthony Patterson, and Ben Whiteman this summer, with Kabore expected to join them.
This transfer could signal Wrexham's growing ambition as they prepare for a second Championship season after a 43-year absence from the division.
