Tailscale is a free service that builds a secure mesh network, or tailnet, connecting devices across the internet as if they were on the same local network. It requires no router or firewall changes and relies on established encryption and identity providers. The author used it to remotely access home lab PCs while traveling, avoiding the cost and complexity of traditional VPN solutions.
