French heatwave enables first natural Nile crocodile hatchings at Pierrelatte park

Ten Nile crocodile eggs hatched naturally at La Ferme aux Crocodiles in southeastern France, marking the first time the park's reptiles reproduced without controlled incubators. The director attributed the event to prolonged heatwaves, which kept the sand at the required 30-32°C for about three months. While the hatchlings are healthy, the occurrence is seen as a stark indicator of climate change, with warmer conditions favoring subtropical species.
