Rockstar calls GTA 6 leaks 'heartbreaking' as more footage emerges
Rockstar Games issued its first official statement on the recent wave of Grand Theft Auto VI leaks, describing the period as heartbreaking for the team. Shortly after the statement, another leaked video appeared showing the character Jason carjacking a vehicle and evading police, with a brief appearance by Lucia in a cutscene. The studio apologized for the extended development time, noting the game is nearly finished, and acknowledged the leaks were not how they intended to reveal the game.
The leak wave stems from an apparently playable build of the game, with a party calling itself "CyberLeek" claiming responsibility and using the stolen footage partly to promote a cryptocurrency. Publisher Take-Two Interactive has moved to subpoena Microsoft and Discord in an effort to trace the source of the copyright-infringing material.
Rockstar's statement also confirmed an extended gameplay look will stream exclusively on Netflix Thursday at 3PM ET, arriving on YouTube six hours later. The studio reiterated that the game itself remains on track for a November 19th release, describing the project as "nearly there" despite the prolonged development cycle.
