Xbox X25 Controller Preorders Open: Translucent Green Design Pays Tribute to Original Xbox
Microsoft has opened preorders for the X25 Special Edition controller, a translucent green design inspired by the original Xbox. Priced at $79.99, it launches October 20 and is available at major retailers.
The X25 Special Edition controller carries a $79.99 price tag and is slated for an October 20 release. Preorders are currently active through Microsoft's storefront and Best Buy, while Amazon listings have not yet gone live. The translucent green shell directly echoes the iconic look of the original Xbox console from 2001.
This release arrives as part of Microsoft's ongoing pattern of anniversary-themed hardware, with the design serving as a visual tribute to the brand's early identity. The controller is compatible with the Xbox Series X platform, and the announcement was handled by IGN's senior commerce editor, who also oversees coverage of board games and LEGO sets for the outlet.
This nostalgic design could resonate strongly with longtime Xbox fans who grew up with the original console, potentially driving significant preorder demand among collectors. The translucent aesthetic may also appeal to younger players drawn to retro styling, expanding the controller's market beyond typical accessory buyers. However, at $79.99, it sits above standard controller pricing, which could limit impulse purchases and make this a more deliberate buy for dedicated enthusiasts rather than casual consumers.
