Brentford close in on Diouf after £40m agreement with West Ham
Brentford have reached a verbal agreement with West Ham to sign defender El Hadji Malick Diouf for an initial £35m plus £5m in add-ons. The 21-year-old Senegal left-back has been cleared for a medical. Diouf joined West Ham last year for £19m and played 34 times last season.
Diouf's move would mark a significant financial turnaround for West Ham, who stand to more than double their investment in the Senegal international after just one season. The defender featured in the Hammers' opening Championship fixture against Burnley but has since been left out of the squad for their last two matches, suggesting the club had already planned for his departure.

If completed, he would join five other new arrivals at the Bees, who finished ninth last season and narrowly missed European qualification on goal difference. Brentford opened their current campaign with a 3-0 victory over Tottenham.
