Nintendo Switch 2 base price rises to $500 next week
Starting September 1st, the base Switch 2 model will cost $499.99, up from $449.99. Bundles with games will exceed $500. The price hike comes as the console's game library expands.
The price adjustment reflects broader memory component cost pressures affecting the hardware industry. Nintendo's increase is comparatively modest against competitors like the Steam Deck OLED, which saw a $200-plus jump. The console's 7.9-inch LCD display, magnetic Joy-Con 2 controllers, and backwards compatibility with original Switch games remain unchanged by the pricing shift.
Two game bundles arriving this fall will exceed the $500 mark, offering a slight discount on included titles. The upcoming library includes a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Duskbloods, giving prospective buyers additional incentive to purchase before the September 1st deadline.
The price increase could affect consumer purchasing decisions, particularly for families and casual gamers who may have viewed the Switch 2 as a more affordable entry point into current-generation handheld gaming. While $50 may not deter dedicated Nintendo fans, it could push budget-conscious buyers toward alternatives or delay adoption. The timing, coinciding with a growing game library, may soften the impact as the console's value proposition strengthens.
