Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama died on August 14 in Tokyo, her company confirmed on Thursday. Known for her signature dots and infinity motifs, she turned hallucinations and trauma into a prolific career spanning visual art, performance, and literature. She continued painting until her final days.
Kusama was born in 1929 to a wealthy family and began creating her signature art at age ten, after a tablecloth pattern triggered visions that spread across an entire room.
