Beyoncé's 'B'Day' Turns 20 With a 27-Track Deluxe Reissue
Beyoncé announced a 20th anniversary deluxe edition of her sophomore album 'B'Day,' expanding the original 13 tracks to 27. The package includes B-sides, Spanish-language versions like 'Irreemplazable,' and a 60-page commemorative booklet. It will be released on Sept. 4 in multiple vinyl and CD formats.
The original B'Day arrived in September 2006 and immediately topped the Billboard 200, powered by a production roster that included Ne-Yo, the Neptunes, Stargate, Swizz Beatz, and Darkchild. Its singles performed strongly on the Hot 100, with "Déjà Vu" peaking at No. 4, "Ring the Alarm" at No. 11, and "Beautiful Liar" reaching No. 3.
This anniversary edition follows a pattern of revisiting the album, which previously received an expanded two-disc deluxe treatment less than eight months after its debut, featuring a Shakira duet and Spanish-language tracks. The new package also incorporates "Morning Dew (Donk)," a four-song surprise release from earlier this month that includes new verses from Jay-Z, alongside the B'Day Anthology Video Album's legacy of 13 videos directed by prominent music video filmmakers.
This reissue could reinforce Beyoncé's ongoing strategy of treating her catalog as a living archive, giving longtime fans a premium collectible while introducing younger listeners to a pivotal mid-2000s pop-R&B moment. The multiple price tiers may broaden access, though the $149.98 flagship edition could limit who can participate. It may also spur renewed streaming activity for B'Day tracks, potentially influencing how other legacy artists package anniversary releases in an increasingly vinyl-driven market.
