Nvidia reportedly buys AI platform Hugging Face for $12.9 billion
According to The Information, Nvidia has agreed to acquire AI platform Hugging Face for $12.9 billion. The purchase could strengthen Nvidia's open-model strategy and provide another route to sell its AI hardware. Hugging Face hosts models and datasets and develops tools like Transformers.
Hugging Face operates a widely used repository where researchers publish and share AI models, datasets, and applications, alongside its popular Transformers software library. Its Inference Endpoints service lets customers deploy models on managed infrastructure from AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure, with hardware options spanning AWS Inferentia, AMD Instinct, Google TPU, Intel CPUs, and Nvidia accelerators.
Nvidia's hardware sales benefit substantially from AI models being trained and optimized on its platforms.
