Paramount Studios Bolsters Genre Slate with 'Wheel of Time' Showrunner

Rafe Judkins, creator of 'The Wheel of Time,' has entered an exclusive overall deal with Paramount Television Studios. He will develop and produce original scripted series for the studio. The move aligns with Paramount+'s push for a signature world-building franchise.

The agreement places Judkins at the streaming-focused studio as Paramount+ leadership actively seeks a signature genre property capable of anchoring the platform. His track record with The Wheel of Time, which he created and currently showruns, positions him as a proven builder of expansive fantasy narratives.

The deal follows Judkins' recent departure from Amazon's God of War adaptation, where he had served as an executive producer alongside Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus before Sony and Amazon opted to restart the project. Thunell's public statement emphasized Judkins' world-building and character work as key reasons for the partnership.
