Netflix and Rockstar reveal extended GTA VI gameplay

Netflix and Rockstar Games released a 26-minute preview of Grand Theft Auto VI, showcasing enhanced graphics and detailed environments. The footage, captured on PS5, emphasizes cooperative missions between protagonists Jason and Lucia. The game retains classic GTA elements like driving, shooting, and exploration.
The 26-minute preview, captured on PlayStation 5, showcased cooperative gameplay between protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, including a sequence where one character leans from a moving vehicle to fire at pursuing police. Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson told the New York Times that a February playthrough lasted roughly 80 hours, and the map reportedly spans three times the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2.
Players can switch between the two leads at any time, with options for one character to tag along or for solo exploration. The returning Snapmatic feature cannot be used for posting, as the couple avoids leaving a digital footprint. The six-star wanted system returns, with police able to recognize the player's appearance, requiring outfit changes to evade pursuit.
This release could significantly shape expectations for open-world gaming, as Rockstar's technical showcase may raise the bar for visual fidelity and interactive storytelling. The cooperative protagonist system could influence how other developers approach narrative design and player agency. However, the game's massive scope and extended development cycle may also intensify industry-wide concerns about production timelines and workforce strain, affecting both player anticipation and the broader gaming ecosystem.
