Bluesky introduces setting to keep posts out of Discover feed
Bluesky has added an algorithmic opt-out feature that prevents posts from appearing in the main Discover feed. The setting is account-level and works across AT Proto apps, though other apps may choose to ignore it. It does not make posts private, but reduces discoverability beyond a user's network.
The new toggle sits within the Privacy and Security menu and takes roughly an hour to activate across the network. Because Bluesky posts remain public by default, the feature does not restrict visibility entirely—it only removes content from the algorithmic Discover feed that aggregates public posts network-wide.
The preference is stored at the account level rather than the app level, meaning it travels with users across AT Proto-compatible applications. However, third-party apps must voluntarily honor the setting. The move follows Bluesky's recent addition of longer video support, part of a broader push to give users more control over their posting experience.
