Disney+ Orders Aardman-Produced Pokémon Stop-Motion Show for 2027

Disney+ has commissioned a new stop-motion Pokémon series from Aardman, titled "Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd & Pichu," which will premiere on Disney XD and stream on Disney+ in 2027. The announcement accompanies a broader global distribution pact with The Pokémon Company International, which also brings the classic series "Pokémon the Series: The Beginning" to Disney platforms. That earlier series is now available on Disney XD and Disney+.
The new series pairs Aardman's signature stop-motion craft with the Pokémon franchise, marking a notable creative collaboration. The show is slated for a 2027 debut across Disney XD and Disney+.
The distribution agreement also brings the long-running "Pokémon the Series: The Beginning" to Disney platforms, featuring Ash and Pikachu's early adventures. That classic series has already launched on Disney XD and Disney+, making it the first title released under the new partnership.
This partnership could expand Pokémon's reach to younger audiences through Disney's family-friendly streaming ecosystem, while giving Aardman a high-profile franchise to showcase its animation style. Families with young children may discover the classic series anew, and the 2027 stop-motion show could introduce the brand to viewers who prefer distinctive visual formats. The deal may also signal growing crossover between major animation studios and established gaming properties.
