Daniel Donato's 'Ryman to Robert's' Captures Two Nashville Shows in One Night
The guitarist and his band Cosmic Country recorded two concerts on the same night in August 2025 for a new three-disc live album. The set spans a performance at the Ryman Auditorium and a later set at Robert's Western World. It showcases Donato's improvisational skills and deep roots in Nashville's music scene.
Donato began his Nashville career as a teenage guitarist in the Don Kelley Band at Robert’s Western World, where his Telecaster work on Allman Brothers and Merle Haggard covers stunned bar crowds. The new album’s title traces that journey in reverse, moving from a 20-song Ryman headline set to a late-night return to the same honky-tonk stage. Band members carry playful Western nicknames, and the recording includes a 15-minute version of “Fortunate Sparrow” featuring a piano-and-organ break from Nathan Aronowitz.
The three-disc release also pairs country originals like “Blame the Train” with a gospel raveup of “I Saw the Light,” while jam-oriented improvisation dominates extended tracks. A companion mini-documentary is scheduled to premiere this Saturday, offering behind-the-scenes footage of the two-venue night.
This release could deepen appreciation for Nashville’s live-music ecosystem, showing how a single night can bridge historic venues and grassroots honky-tonks.
