Norris commits to McLaren through 2030 with new extension
McLaren announced a new contract for Lando Norris on Saturday, keeping the reigning world champion with the team until at least the end of the 2030 season. The deal includes a multi-year option beyond that date, and Norris will receive his 2025 championship-winning car as part of the agreement. Norris, who joined McLaren's driver academy in 2017, won his first F1 title last year by two points over Max Verstappen.
Norris's journey with McLaren began in 2017 when he joined the team's young driver academy, followed by his grand prix debut at age 19 in 2019. His first career victory came at Miami in 2024, the same year he helped McLaren secure the constructors' championship — their first in 26 years — while finishing runner-up to Verstappen in the drivers' standings.
The 2025 campaign brought seven victories, culminating in a title-clinching performance at the Abu Dhabi season finale. Currently fourth in the standings, Norris has won the last two races in Hungary and the Netherlands. The announcement was made at McLaren's annual family and friends open day at its Woking factory, with the previous deal dating to early 2024.
This extension could stabilize the Formula 1 driver market for years, potentially influencing contract negotiations for other top drivers and team strategies across the grid.
