The valley's floor and northern rim appear clearly in the distance.
Curiosity's 2012 landing via the rocket-powered sky crane technique fundamentally changed how NASA approaches Mars surface missions. Over its 14-year tenure, the rover has uncovered evidence of ancient liquid water and complex organic molecules, some considered potential building blocks for life.
