CD Projekt Red Vows Witcher 4 Collector's Box Despite Impending Disc Phase-Out

CD Projekt Red's joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed the studio will still release a physical edition of The Witcher 4, even if it lacks a disc due to Sony's planned 2028 halt on physical PlayStation media. He acknowledged the company cannot influence first-party policies but emphasized their commitment to tangible collectibles for fans. The studio's previous physical releases included extras like maps, stickers, and postcards.

The Witcher 4's physical edition will depend on what format remains viable when it launches. The game itself is being built in Unreal Engine 5 and follows Ciri as protagonist. CD Projekt Red is also working on a remaster of The Witcher 3 and a Songs of the Past expansion, keeping the franchise active while The Witcher 4 remains undated. Retailers and industry figures have already criticized Sony's decision, signaling broader tension over the format transition.
