Gakpo prefers City move as Liverpool and Manchester clubs negotiate
Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has chosen Manchester City over Tottenham Hotspur, with both clubs now in discussions for a transfer. Gakpo's preference for Manchester City comes after a difficult campaign in which he managed just three league goals since the start of 2025. Despite featuring in every league fixture, his output dipped significantly following a strong start, though he did provide an assist in Saturday's draw with Nottingham Forest. City have already agreed a €40m deal for Palmeiras winger Allan Elias, while Liverpool have finalized an agreement to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain. Gakpo joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in December 2022 for an initial £37m, recording 50 goals and 23 assists in 180 appearances for the Merseyside club.
