Beyond the hardware losses, the stolen devices carried unfinished builds of titles including Petal Runner and Escape Academy 2, plus personal and company data for Tessera Studios. While external SSD backups may preserve some work, the exposure of unreleased game code to potential leaks represents a significant concern for developers, particularly for solo creator Ryan Laley, who lost all his equipment and described the incident as a major financial and mental blow.
These thefts could have a chilling effect on smaller developers considering exhibition showcases, as the financial and data losses may outweigh the promotional benefits of attending major events.
