The data was compiled by Word Unscrambler, which tracked Google search queries from January through August 2026. The top term, "6-7," generated over 1.6 million searches despite being a nonsense phrase popular with Gen Alpha, often accompanied by a hand gesture mimicking a scale. Several entries trace to older sources, including "chud," which derives from a 1984 horror film title.
The list illustrates how slang meanings shift rapidly. "Bop" once described catchy songs but now carries offensive connotations per Merriam-Webster, while "larping" has expanded beyond role-playing games to describe any form of pretense. Terms like "rizz," "mogging," and "sigma" center on social status, charisma, and self-presentation, reflecting broader cultural preoccupations among younger generations.
