Ex-TCU Safety Jacob Fields Surrenders on Aggravated Assault Charge
Jacob Fields, who was dismissed from TCU's football team, turned himself in to authorities on Sunday. He faces an aggravated assault charge for allegedly striking wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma in a locker room incident on Aug. 13. Fields' agent said they will respect the legal process and not comment publicly.
Fields, a transfer from Louisiana Tech, had been with TCU for only a short period before the Aug. 13 altercation in the team's locker room. The university reported the incident to campus police the following day and formally dismissed him from the program on Aug. 18, citing a violation of team rules. His agent, Philip "Red" Miller of PM3 Sports, confirmed Fields has retained an attorney and voluntarily surrendered to authorities rather than being arrested.
The alleged victim, junior receiver Dozie Ezukanma, described the attack in a since-deleted Instagram video, claiming he was struck from behind without warning. A person appearing alongside him in the footage said Ezukanma lost consciousness after his head struck the ground. The incident cast a shadow over TCU's season opener, a 15-10 loss to North Carolina in Ireland, where coach Sonny Dykes called the situation unexpected and out of character.
This case could shape how college athletic programs handle off-field violence involving players, particularly when criminal charges follow internal discipline.
