The Universal Commerce Protocol, developed with Google, standardizes how AI agents handle the entire shopping journey from discovery to checkout. Merchants can now manage AI channels and monitor sales performance from a centralized admin panel.
The Shopify Catalog automatically includes eligible products from all merchants, removing the need for separate setup or third-party applications. According to Shopify's data, product recommendations generated through AI searches using this structured catalog convert at roughly double the rate of searches relying on less organized information sources. The Universal Commerce Protocol, co-developed with Google, creates a standardized framework that AI agents can follow across the full purchasing sequence, from initial product discovery through final checkout.
Merchants now manage all AI-driven sales channels through a single admin dashboard, which consolidates performance tracking and customer inquiry monitoring. Early adopters including Omnilux and Cozy Earth report year-over-year revenue increases from AI channels reaching up to twentyfold. Shopify's Sidekick assistant has also been upgraded to provide proactive business recommendations and integrates with marketing platforms like Klaviyo, helping owners coordinate campaigns without switching between tools.
