Universal Music Latino Teams with Cuban Streamer to Launch Reparto Initiative
Universal Music Latino has partnered with content creator YaBoyyWill to create a platform and series called 'Toma Este Reparto!' The program will give reparto artists studio access, networking with label executives, and mentorship opportunities. It launches during Hispanic Heritage Month in Miami.
The partnership was announced on Aug. 31 and builds on YaBoyyWill's existing "Toma" brand, with the streamer having recently participated in Kai Cenat's Streamer University. Universal Music Latino's Cesar Toirac framed the deal as embracing how streamers shape youth music discovery, while the label provides financial resources, awards show exposure, and mainstream collaboration opportunities to participating artists.
Reparto, named after Cuban housing projects, emerged in the early 2000s blending reggaeton, hip-hop, timba, rumba, and Cuban clave. The initiative launches with Miami recording sessions during Hispanic Heritage Month, and several reparto acts—including Bebeshito, DJ Conds, Wow Popy, and Rey Tony & Helabusador—are already confirmed for Billboard Latin Music Week in October.
This initiative could signal a broader shift in how major labels identify and develop emerging regional genres, using streamers as cultural gatekeepers rather than traditional A&R channels. For Cuban artists, particularly those outside mainstream visibility, the program may open doors to industry infrastructure and financial backing that were previously inaccessible. It could also influence how other labels approach grassroots music movements, potentially accelerating reparto's crossover into mainstream Latin music consumption while reshaping the relationship between digital creators and the recording industry.
