Sony Launches Ad-Supported Live TV Service on PS5
Sony has introduced Live TV on PS5, a free ad-supported service from Sony Pictures Television, available in the U.S. starting today. It offers over 100 live channels and on-demand content including news, sports, movies, TV shows, and anime. Users can access it via the console's Media tab with a PlayStation Network account.
The service draws entirely from Sony Pictures Television's existing library and licensing partnerships, bundling roughly 100 live channels with a rotating on-demand catalog. Notable programming includes mainstream hits like The Walking Dead and Hell's Kitchen, anime titles such as Naruto and Death Note, plus sports coverage from FOX Sports, NASCAR, and UFC. A dedicated Crunchyroll partnership yields exclusive anime channels, while creator-focused content includes Hot Ones and The Ringer.
Sony positions this as a zero-cost entry point—no subscription, downloads, or hidden fees—requiring only a PlayStation Network login. The launch is U.S.-only, though Canada and other regions are planned. It arrives alongside two announced State of Play presentations this week, signaling a broader push to expand the PS5's role beyond gaming into a general entertainment hub.
This move could reshape how console owners consume television, potentially pulling younger viewers away from traditional cable and competing streaming platforms.
