Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott set for season-long Valencia loan
Liverpool and Valencia have agreed a straight loan for Harvey Elliott with no purchase option, covering the 2026-27 season. The 23-year-old, whose Anfield contract runs to 2028, will travel to Spain for a medical after a frustrating loan spell at Aston Villa last term. Valencia head coach Carlos Corberan's personal outreach helped sway Elliott's decision.
Elliott's move follows a difficult loan at Aston Villa, where he managed only nine appearances across all competitions, starting just three times. Upon returning to Liverpool, he failed to break into Andoni Iraola's matchday plans, missing the squad entirely for the opening two Premier League fixtures. Iraola publicly noted that while Elliott continues improving, other options were preferred for bench balance.
Valencia head coach Carlos Corberan personally contacted Elliott last week, and the Spanish club increased their salary contribution over the weekend to finalize terms. The agreement carries no purchase option, with Elliott's Anfield contract running through 2028. Separately, Stefan Bajcetic completed a permanent return to Celta Vigo for roughly £1 million, including a sell-on clause, after injury-plagued loan spells at RB Salzburg and Las Palmas.
This loan could give Elliott the regular first-team minutes needed to rebuild his career trajectory after two stalled seasons, potentially restoring his value before his contract enters its final years. For Valencia, the move adds creative midfield depth without long-term financial risk. The deal may also reflect Liverpool's evolving squad strategy under Iraola, as they streamline options and generate small fees for peripheral players.
