Spurs sound out Chelsea over Mudryk loan, reuniting with De Zerbi
Tottenham Hotspur have asked Chelsea about a loan for Mykhailo Mudryk, who has not played competitively since November 2024 due to an anti-doping case that was resolved in July. Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi previously coached Mudryk at Shakhtar Donetsk, where the winger scored two goals and provided nine assists in 2021-22. Chelsea are open to a loan and want Mudryk to get regular playing time before the transfer window closes.
Mudryk’s competitive absence stretches back to November 2024, when an adverse urine sample triggered a provisional suspension. The FA initially imposed a four-year ban in April, but a July 31 resolution between the FA and WADA cleared him to resume training and selection. During the 20-month layoff, he was required to train alone, away from Chelsea’s facilities, and has since appeared only as a substitute in three pre-season friendlies.
Spurs have already committed over £300 million this summer, adding Savio and Omar Marmoush from Manchester City. De Zerbi’s prior relationship with Mudryk at Shakhtar, where the winger produced two goals and nine assists in 2021-22, underpins the enquiry. Chelsea rejected a Leeds loan proposal on August 21 but remain open to a temporary exit, prioritizing regular minutes for the 25-year-old before the window closes.
This move could reshape Mudryk’s career trajectory after a prolonged, isolating suspension, offering him a competitive platform to rebuild form and confidence. For Spurs, a loan would add depth without further stretching their already massive spending, potentially boosting their attacking options in a crowded Premier League race.
