Raccoon-themed Mariners giveaway card fetches $20,100 at auction

A one-of-one gold-bordered Jimothy the raccoon trading card, given away by the Seattle Mariners on 'Jimothy Night' earlier this month, sold on eBay for $20,100. The card was won by 13-year-old Abby, whose family listed it after receiving cash offers during the game. The sale surpasses the previous record for a stadium giveaway card, set by a Los Angeles Dodgers 'One Piece' card that sold for $19,800 in February.
The gold-bordered card was one of 20,000 distributed at T-Mobile Park on Aug. 5, with Abby's family fielding in-person offers during the game, including an attempt by a Mariners staffer on behalf of pitcher George Kirby. They ultimately chose eBay, where 100 bids pushed the final price past the previous stadium giveaway record.
Base Jimothy cards now trade for $25 or more, while the version limited to 100 copies has reached $850. The sale also draws comparison to a 2024 Topps raccoon card from an MLS match, whose one-of-one version never sold publicly, with its top parallel fetching just $202.
This sale may signal how viral internet fame can translate into real financial windfalls for everyday fans, potentially encouraging more families to treat stadium giveaways as speculative assets. It could also prompt teams to design more elaborate promotional items, knowing scarcity and online buzz can drive outsized prices. The collectibles market may see increased casual participation, though such outcomes remain rare and unpredictable.
