Sheri Herman, who helped launch E! Entertainment Television and later led American Cybercast, died Aug. 6 of heart failure at her Florida home. She was instrumental in growing E!'s subscriber base from 2 million to 55 million during her tenure. Herman also spearheaded early interactive web series at American Cybercast in the 1990s.
Herman’s early career at Movietime in 1988 led to the channel’s rebranding as E! Entertainment Television, where she oversaw marketing and brand development. Under her guidance, the network’s reach expanded dramatically, from 2 million to 55 million subscribers, a growth credited to her creative partnerships and promotional strategies. At American Cybercast in the mid-1990s, she pioneered early web-based serials, including *The Spot*, integrating product placements and sponsored links into character journals. She raised over $7 million from tech investors, predicting a shift of audiences from television to personal computers. A 2007 hit-and-run accident forced her early retirement at 52. Born in Philadelphia, she studied at Temple University before entering media.
