Brisbane to Host Screen Music Awards Again as APRA Celebrates 100 Years
The 2026 Screen Music Awards will take place at Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane on October 28, marking the second consecutive year in that city. The ceremony, co-presented by APRA AMCOS and the Australian Guild of Screen Composers, will honor achievements in 16 categories across film, TV, documentary, and children's programming. Actor Rob Collins will host, with guest presenters Claudia Karvan and Ayesha Madon, while composer Erkki Veltheim serves as music director for the final time.
The ceremony marks APRA's centenary year, a milestone the organization says underscores its century-long mission of supporting music creators. Nominees across the 16 competitive categories will be revealed on September 22, with most winners chosen by panels of Australian screen composers. Two awards are determined by APRA's board, while two additional honors rely on statistical performance data.
Last year's Brisbane debut demonstrated the field's global footprint, with Joff Bush earning recognition for Bluey, the most-streamed U.S. show of 2024, and Cornel Wilczek winning twice for Fake and The Survivors. Past honorees also include Antonio Gambale, Fred Leone, Meg Washington, and Missy Higgins.
