Wrexham near £6.5m deal for Blades midfielder O'Hare
Wrexham are set to sign Sheffield United midfielder Callum O'Hare for around £6.5m after he undergoes a medical. The 28-year-old has scored 13 goals in 97 appearances for the Blades since joining in 2024. The move is expected to be completed before the transfer deadline, with O'Hare becoming Wrexham's seventh summer signing.
O'Hare has been a regular for Sheffield United this season, appearing in every match and scoring in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Cardiff City. The 28-year-old still had two years remaining on his Bramall Lane contract, meaning Wrexham must pay a significant fee to secure his services before the 23:00 BST deadline.
The move would make O'Hare Wrexham's seventh summer acquisition, following deals for goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, wing-backs Danny Imray, Issa Kabore and Jacques Ekomie, central midfielder Ben Whiteman, and centre-back Joe Worrall. Wrexham may also offload players before the deadline, with Elliot Lee, Harry Ashfield and Aaron James among potential departures. Former England international Conor Coady has already left by mutual consent after being omitted from four matchday squads.
This transfer signals Wrexham's continued financial ambition in the Championship, potentially reshaping competitive balance in the division. If completed, the deal could raise expectations among supporters and increase pressure on manager Phil Parkinson to deliver promotion. It may also influence how other clubs approach deadline-day negotiations, particularly given Sheffield United's public frustration with Wrexham's aggressive recruitment tactics. For O'Hare personally, the move could offer a more prominent attacking role, while Wrexham's spending may draw scrutiny from rivals concerned about sustainability in the second tier.
