Sonos rolls out Ace Ultra headphones, Beam Ultra soundbar, and AI-powered Sonos 27
Sonos announced two new audio devices and a major software update at a New York event. The Sonos 27 operating system introduces an in-house voice assistant and support for connecting external AI models. The company is positioning this as its biggest product launch since a controversial app redesign in 2024.
The event marks Sonos's most substantial product rollout since the 2024 app redesign that drew widespread customer criticism. The Ace Ultra headphones were previously spotted in an FCC filing in early August, hinting at the company's plans. The Beam Ultra soundbar joins the lineup as the second new hardware piece.
Sonos 27 introduces several phased software features. The in-house voice assistant arrives as opt-in early access this fall, while the 27mcp integration for external AI models launches September 8th. Custom AI agents with assignable voices and roles won't appear until 2027. The Play and Move 2 portable speakers gain surround sound capability, and headphone linking rolls out September 29th.
This launch could reshape how consumers interact with home audio systems, as Sonos's AI integration may set a precedent for other audio manufacturers. Users could gain more personalized control through custom agents, but the reliance on external AI models raises questions about privacy and data handling in home environments
