Dolly Parton's Legacy Celebrated with 20 Tribute Corn Mazes Supporting Children's Literacy
Twenty farms across the U.S. and Canada are opening corn mazes designed to honor Dolly Parton and her Imagination Library. The mazes, created by The Maize Inc., feature Dolly-inspired designs and will donate a portion of proceeds to the book-gifting program. Parton, who died on August 25, had the tributes planned before her passing.
The 20 mazes span 15 U.S. states and two Canadian provinces, with each design offering a distinct visual tribute to Parton's music and philanthropy. Brett Herbst, founder of The Maize Inc., noted that Parton's affection for farming made the tribute especially fitting, echoing her family's statement that while her father worked the soil, she cultivated songs and joy. The installations include interactive elements such as Dolly-themed photo stations, storytelling areas, and seasonal activities beyond the maze paths themselves.
This year's campaign coincides with the 31st anniversary of Imagination Library, which has distributed over 304 million free books to children from birth to age five since 1995. Parton had recorded a video before her death encouraging visitors to "get lost" in the mazes for a meaningful cause. Previous Country Music Corn Maze tributes honored Reba McEntire, Luke Bryan, and Lainey Wilson, but this year's edition carries added emotional weight following Parton's passing on August 25.
The mazes may draw families and country music fans to rural communities during peak fall tourism season, potentially boosting local economies while reinforcing literacy awareness. The tribute could deepen public engagement with Imagination Library's mission, possibly inspiring more donations or volunteer participation in book distribution programs.
