Abramorama has acquired North American rights to Rory Kennedy's documentary 'The Trial of Alec Baldwin,' which features exclusive access to the actor following the Rust shooting. The film will open in New York on Oct. 1 and in Los Angeles on Oct. 15, with an awards campaign planned. Kennedy and her partner Mark Bailey said the film raises questions about blame and the judicial system.
The documentary captures Baldwin's perspective over years of filming, incorporating footage from the Rust set, his police interrogation, and subsequent court proceedings. Kennedy's exclusive access positions the film as a comprehensive chronicle of the aftermath following cinematographer Halyna Hutchins' death.
The release strategy includes a New York opening at Village East by Angelika on Oct. 1, followed by a Los Angeles premiere at Laemmle Monica on Oct. 15, then an Oscar-qualifying run at Laemmle Noho 7 before wider theatrical expansion. Abramorama's CEO praised the film for addressing complex questions about blame and public judgment.
